For new authors, I know a lot of you may be disappointed in the way Itchio has treated creators. Previously it was very simple to upload your work to widely distribute. Please note, for the Dash we will accept submissions through Itchio. What this means is you will publish your work on another site as Monster Manor is not equipped to support sales. You can then submit your book to the forum, to be included in a running directory of projects made for the Dash. Remember to acknowledge that no one content site is infallible, and you should do your own research into every single option to figure out what is best for you. This is only a quick rundown of the some of the options. Many of these may be involved in controversial practices, such as being Pro-AI among other things. Use your best discretion when choosing, as I know as creators, there are limited resources for tools we can use. (Example: Meta apps for marketing, Canva for graphics, etc.)
Subscribestar
Amazon
Payhip
Draft2Digital and Smashwords
IngramSpark
Some other options that I admittedly do not know much about are things like BookVault and LuLu books. If you have any further resources, or additions feel free to create a new thread or leave info in the comments. I have been publishing personally in the United States and have only recently moved to Europe, so I am not as knowledgeable about how things work outside of the US and would love more resources / experiences in other areas.
Subscribestar
Quote:Subscribestar at the moment seems to be one of the "safest" places to host adult and erotic content. I personally have yet to use it, but you should know this is a subscription based service, meaning people will subscribe to you monthly rather than one time purchases. I'm unsure as I haven't used this if Subscribestar offers the option of physical rewards, and may be best for digital or serialized works.
Amazon
Quote:While there is quite a bit of content "banned" or "monitored" on Kindle Direct Publishing, this can still be an option. Check terms of service, and be smart about how you market your books. If you upload directly through KDP, it can be limited, though you may select to use the Kindle Unlimited Feature. You can not do pre-orders for paperbacks, but you can for eBooks.
Payhip
Quote:A lot of creators, myself included are moving to Payhip. Per the terms of service they do not actually support erotic creators, and because of this I am unable to list my content warnings on the website. Alternatives to this (that I would suggest anyways) would be uploading a short PDF per each published work with the content warnings, copyright information, other parties involved(the standard "front matter") and 2-3 pages people can flip through to get an idea of your work, much like how Amazon offers the "take a look" feature. You do not need an ISBN for payhip, as it is probably the closest in terms of how you use it to using itchio. It is possible to offer pre-orders on payhip with the use of BookFunnel. Payhip works best for digital distribution, and can work for paperback distribution, but in this sense it would be more like etsy where you will be responsible to package and ship your product.
Draft2Digital and Smashwords
Quote:D2D is one of the places I have moved as an author. D2D will upload your work "wide", meaning it will popular to smashwords, as well as other selected sites. If you are writing outside of the erotica genre, you can also distribute your work to libraries this way. Libraries will not accept works labeled as erotic. Please try to categorize your work as accurately as possible, while it is unfair to NSFW creators to be pushed out of every available avenue, we want to avoid being disingenuous about what we're writing. Smashwords seems to be the most widely accepting at the moment of erotic and even "taboo" works, and this is were I see a lot of people moving post-itchio era. With D2D you do not need an ISBN, an ISBN will be provided for you. You cannot use this ISBN outside of D2D services. Uploading with D2D will automatically generate a Books2Read account with universal links. You can use D2D for paperbacks. D2D also allows split revenue sharing.
IngramSpark
Quote:IngramSpark is also a "wide" distributor, meaning it will populate your books to other avenues of sales, and book shops will be able to order your book through IngramSpark. IngramSpark also offers the option for creating hardcovers, and direct paperback buy links (example: https://shop.ingramspark.com/b/084 ) If you are in the United States you can receive a free non-transferable ISBN to use only with Ingram. You can do paperback pre-orders with Ingram.
